We're obviously at the point now whereby if a company has a directory server it's almost certainly going to be Active Directory. Microsoft have clearly won this war - all hail the new leader!
The cross platform modifications to Active Directory included with the release of Windows 2003 R2 were no doubt welcome, if not long overdue, for any *NIX shops. I'm a subscriber to Linux Journal and they hailed this step forward and provided indepth coverage. Having just downloaded SCOM 2007 R2 I have to express disappointment therefore that *NIX systems are identified via;
Computer Name - or - IP address range.
It's certainly workable but why did I go to the trouble of getting my *NIX machines integrated with AD if I can't leverage the benefits?
Regards,
Simon.
