I have just had a similar problem - it is *really* frustrating and difficult to put your finger on the problem when WMI is corrupt. To avoid reinstalling the entire OS from scratch you can choose to reinstall WMI. Search for technet article - "WMI Isn't Working" http://www.microsoft.com...
